Why Yoga Is A Must-Try Activity For You..

I know you’ve heard of yoga, and you may have tried it here and there, but have you ever stuck to a consistent practice to reap the rewards? This is the hard part. And by consistent, I don’t mean practicing for an hour everyday! Trust me when I tell you that you can gain the benefits from yoga by practicing when you can a few times a week. For me, yoga has been something I can turn to for managing stress and anxiety, as well as the physical benefits involved.

What are the benefits?
Improved flexibility, improved muscle strength, better posture, increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure, improves balance, releases tension, helps you sleep better and eases pain are just some of the physical benefits you can experience from yoga (and you can find more here). But even more, there are amazing mental benefits of yoga such as improved inner strength, increased self-esteem, gives you peace of mind, helps you focus and makes you happier! Who wouldn’t want all of these things?!

Aren’t there many different styles?
Yes, there are so many different styles of yoga such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Kundalini. They are all fairly similar for beginners however, so I wouldn’t worry too much about which one you start with. Take a few classes, or watch a few YouTube videos at home to see what style resonates with you most.

How do I get started?
Simply doing it! Go to a guided class near you, or even start by trying it at home if you feel uncomfortable in a group setting. There are plenty of yoga videos on YouTube, or I personally use YogaGlo, where you can choose from many yoga styles, a certain instructor, and best of all you can do it anytime you want!

The one thing to remember, is not to get discouraged if you can’t do a certain post or movement – this isn’t what yoga is about. If you are feeling this pressure, try and step away and come back to it or try a different style where you don’t feel the urge to compete.
