4 Herbal Teas to Boost Your Immune System This Winter

Winter is here, and with the cooler months generally comes a decrease in our immune system. We get exposed to more germs and sometimes if we’re run down, our immune system can’t cope and we end up with the dreaded cold or flu. Herbal tea’s have amazing therapeutic benefits, and are a great support for your immune system. Plus, who doesn’t love drinking tea in Winter? I’ve listed my favourite herbal teas below that will support your immune function during the cooler months this year.

Elder
There has been positive scientific evidence to support Elder for treating symptoms of the flu. Elder herbal tea has been traditionally used for coughs, as an immune stimulant and laryngitis.

Thyme
Thyme has antimicrobial, antiseptic and antibacterial properties and has been traditionally used for upper respiratory infections like bronchitis or a nasty cough. When making a Thyme herbal tea, leaves can be used fresh or dried.

Yarrow
Yarrow herbal tea has traditionally been used to help relieve symptoms of the common cold. Yarrow is also commonly combined with Elder and Peppermint to make naturopathic tea blend for colds.

Lemon
For a lemon herbal tea, you can buy this already in tea bags or loose leaf or if you’d prefer, you can use a fresh lemon to make a tea, using whole fruit slices, zest, juice or skin. The lemon herbal teas contain essential oils which have antibacterial and antiviral properties that will support your immune system.
