What You Need to Know About Essential Oils with Babies & Kids..

Essential oils can have so many benefits for your health and home, but what about your young ones? The same applies! I have seen amazing results with my little man and the essential oils we use with him daily. As they are so young and essential oils can be strong, there are several ways to ensure you use them safely.

Choosing Oils
When using essential oils with young ones, it’s best to choose really gentle oils as some can be quite potent. Gentle oils to consider using are Lavender, Frankincense and Tea Tree.

Dilution Requirements
When using essential oils on ourselves topically we generally say 1 drop EO to 2ml of a carrier oil. For the little ones, we need to increase the carrier oil so the essential oil is less potent for their little bodies. For babies you should dilute using 1 drop to 10ml, and toddlers 1 drop to 5ml.

Diffusing
You can use a diffuser for your children, but you won’t need to put as much essential oil into the diffuser as you would for yourself. Always ensure you are diffusing in a well-ventilated area.

Topical Application
Topical application is fine on babies and young kids if you are using gentle oils and following the dilution requirements above. However, I would always suggest to patch test first on the younger ones to ensure they have no reactions to either the essential or carrier oils.

A great baby immune roller to make yourself:

  • 1 drop of Cedarwood, 1 drop of Cypress and 1 drop of Lemon diluted with fractionated coconut oil.
